My Review

I have read a previous book by K.L. Slater and enjoyed it, so I couldn't pass up the opportunity to take part in this blog tour. This is another great read, from the first page I couldn't put it down until I found out what 'the secret' was. The final few chapters with the reveal and the twists, were brilliant and tied up everything I needed to know about what had happened.

Archie is by far my favourite character. He is a troubled little boy, but I loved seeing how his relationship with his Auntie Alice grew throughout the book. He is a positive influence on Alice, who is also dealing with her own issues.

I did not like Alice's sister, Louise, I can think of a few choice words to describe her! But I will restrain myself and just say she isn't a very nice person. She seems to take advantage of her sister and wants everything her own way, she seems unsympathetic towards how Alice feelings. She also seems to be a bit of a distant parent.

The book goes from present to past throughout, this was done seamlessly and wasn't difficult to keep track of what was going on and when. The story is mainly told from Alice's side, though there are some chapters from Louise and Archie's side as well. Annie had something bad happen in her past and is trying to work her way through it.

I really enjoyed this book, it had everything I enjoy reading in it. Just when I thought I knew what was going on, I was proved wrong! A must read for fans of thrillers. Thank to Bookouture for inviting me to take part, make sure you check out what others on the tour thought of 'The Secret'
