Book Review - The Ex-Wife/Jess Ryder

You've got everything she wants ...

Newly married Natasha has the perfect house, a loving husband and a beautiful little girl called Emily. She'd have it all if it wasn't for Jen, her husband's ex-wife who just won't leave them alone ...

Then Natasha returns home one day to find her husband and Emily gone without trace. Desperate to get her daughter back, Natasha will do anything even if it means accepting an offer of help from Jen. But can she trust her? And do either of them really know the man they married?

Review

This is a love triangle with a major twist! It is hard to feel sympathy for any of the main characters in this story (apart from Emily). Each character has their own downfalls and have made mistakes, finding themselves in a complicated life that no-one would want.

I wanted to reach in and shake Natasha at times, she comes across as so gullible throughout. You know when you watch a movie and think "Why are you doing that?" "That is going to end well!" That is how I felt with Natasha. She loves her daughter and is lost without her and tries desperately to get her back.

Jen, the ex-wife, was also not very likeable. Even though she was initially the wronged woman, I just didn't like her. I did go back and forth about her, and at times even had a little sympathy for her predicament.

I enjoyed the way the book was laid out, going from present to past and told from different sides. The author seemed to do this effortlessly and it wasn't confusing, actually adding to the background of how all the characters ended up where they are. The first twist was a real game changer and flipped where I thought the story was going. I would quite like to read a sequel to this book to find out what happened next.

I would recommend this book to fans of psychological thrillers.

Does this sound like the type of book you would like?
