Peter Tobin was born in Scotland in 1946, he had eight siblings and was raised as a catholic. He was married three times and had three children, one of whom died.
In 1993 after attacking two teenage girls, he went on the run. He sought refuge in a religious group in Coventry. He was captured, and in May 1994 he pled guilty and got a 14 year prison sentence. In 2004 after serving 10 years he was released.
Angelika was 23 years old, she was from Poland and was in Scotland studying. She worked as a cleaner at St Patrick's Church in Anderston to support her during her studies.
At the same time as she was working at the church, Peter Tobin was also working there as a handyman under an assumed name. He was calling himself 'Pat McLaughlin'.
Angelika was last seen with Tobin before she went missing. Her body was ultimately found buried underneath the church. She had been stabbed, beaten and raped. Peter Tobin was arrested shortly after the discovery of her body.
Peter Tobin was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment.
After Tobin's conviction, police began to suspect that Angelika wasn't his only victim. So a task force was set up to go through his history and see if there were any connections to other women.
Through these investigations they were led to search an old residence of Tobin's, a house in Margate. During these searches two bodies were found, Vicky Hamilton and Dinah McNicol.
Vicky was last seen in February 1991, she was waiting for a bus to get home. She had been to visit her sister in West Lothian, before going back home to Redding.
Her remains were found in the back garden of a house, previously lived in by Peter Tobin. There wasn't just the fact that he lived at the house to support the theory of his guilt. Police had forensic evidence to prove Tobin was the killer, including fingerprints and DNA on Vicky's purse and sheets her body was wrapped in.
In December 2008 Peter Tobin was found guilty of Vicky Hamilton's murder and was handed another life sentence.
Dinah was last seen in 1991, she was hitchhiking home from festival. She was with a man from the festival, they were both trying to get home. According to this witness, they got in a car with a man, he was dropped off along the M25 and Dinah carried on her journey with the driver. She was never seen again. After she disappeared money was withdrawn regularly from her account.
Dinah McNicol's body was found in November 2007, at 50 Irvine Drive, Margate. Tobin was found guilty of her murder, and he was given his third life sentence.
Peter Tobin is a completely evil man, through and through. Aside from these murders, he raped two young girls, no doubt ruining their lives and he was violent (mentally, physically and sexually) to each of his wives.
Through the work of Operation Anagram he is suspected of many more murders, besides the ones he is convicted of. I would not be surprised if the number was very high, given the amount of time between the murders of Vicky and Dinah, and the murder of Angelika. What was he doing between them times? Could he really stop at two and then wait so long to murder again?
As I said in my Bible John post, I believe given his history that he is a highly likely suspect of being the murderer in that case as well.
He is definitely in the right place, locked up for the rest of his life. So that he can no longer hurt any woman who unfortunately crosses his path.
I would like to hear any views you have on this case. Let me know in the comments.
